Master GEN's power-user features to scale from 1 video to 100+ with variables, row duplication, and AI text automation.
π Getting Started Guide Β· Step 7 of 7
You've mastered the basics. Now it's time to unlock the features that separate GEN power users from everyone else. These three advanced features β variables, row duplication, and AI text fields β are how you go from creating one video at a time to producing 30+ videos per week with minimal effort.
Think of this as your graduation from "content creator" to "content system architect."
Variables: The Secret to Dynamic Content
Variables are dynamic references between cells that automatically sync content across your entire project. Change one variable, and every connected piece of content updates instantly (or flags for your review).
There are two types of variables in GEN:
Column Variables
Note: variables can contain text images, video or audio
Every column name automatically becomes a variable. If you have a column called "Product Name," you can reference ####{{Product Name}} in any other cell, and it will pull the value from that same row.
Example: Your "Product Name" column contains "Vitamin C Serum." In your script column, you write: "Today I'm testing ####{{Product Name}} to see if it lives up to the hype." The output becomes: "Today I'm testing Vitamin C Serum to see if it lives up to the hype."
π‘ Did you know? One DTC skincare brand went from 4 posts/week to 52 β and hit 2.4M views in their first month.
What's great about column variables is that if you duplicate the row and change one of the variables, everything else will still work. For example you can create a product ad with 1 actor where a video is generated from the actor's image and the columns name is Actor and then duplicate the row and switch out the actor and it will all work.
Global Variables
Global variables are shared across all rows in your project. Perfect for brand elements that stay consistent β your brand name, tagline, or seasonal campaigns.
How to create global variables:
Click the "Global Variables" tab at the top of your project
Add a variable name and value
Reference it anywhere using ####{{Variable Name}}
Note: variables can contain text images, video or audio
β‘ Pro Move: Use global variables for A/B testing. Create "CTA Version A" and "CTA Version B" globals, then swap them to test different calls-to-action across your entire content library.
Row Duplication: Your Scaling Superpower
This is the mechanic that transforms GEN from a video tool into a content factory. Duplicating rows lets you create new videos with the same structure but different content.
Here's how it works:
Create your first video with the perfect structure
Right-click the row number and select "Duplicate Row" or click the Duplicate Last Row button at the bottom of the sheet.
Change the variables in your new row
Watch as all connected cells automatically regenerate
Real example: You create a product review video for "Vitamin C Serum." You duplicate the row, change the product name to "Retinol Cream," and GEN automatically generates a new script, new visuals, and a new talking avatar video β all maintaining your brand voice and structure.
π How a faceless YouTube creator uses this: One creator launched a history channel using GEN's Image from Text, voice clone, and auto-captions. Posted 45 Shorts in 30 days β zero filming, zero face on camera. Result: 28K subscribers and monetized in 47 days.
The Duplication Strategy
Smart brands don't just duplicate randomly. They build content systems:
Product showcases: One template Γ every product = instant product library
Trending audio: One viral sound Γ multiple topics = trend domination
Educational series: One format Γ multiple tips = authority building
Seasonal campaigns: One concept Γ different products = campaign consistency
β‘ Pro Move: Create "template rows" that you never export β just duplicate. Keep your best-performing structures as reusable blueprints.
AI Text Fields: Your Content Brain
AI text fields automatically generate copy, captions, and scripts based on your prompts and variables. Instead of writing everything manually, you teach GEN what to write and let it scale your voice.
Converting Regular Text to AI Text
Any text field can become an AI-powered field:
Click the AI icon (π€) next to any text input
Write a prompt instead of the final text
Use variables in your prompts for dynamic content
Hit generate to see AI create your content
Note: variables can contain text images, video or audio. Try asking GEN to create a script from a video or audio file!
Smart Prompting with Variables
The magic happens when you combine AI text with variables. Instead of writing "Create a script about Vitamin C Serum," you write:
"Write a 30-second TikTok script about ####{{Product Name}} for ####{{Target Audience}}. Mention that it ####{{Key Benefit}} and costs ####{{Price}}. Use a conversational tone that sounds like ####{{Brand Voice}}."
Now every row generates a unique, on-brand script automatically.
π‘ Did you know? 82% of GEN users said their audience couldn't tell the content was AI-generated.
AI Text Field Ideas
Video scripts: "Write a ####{{Duration}} script about ####{{Topic}} targeting #####{{Audience}}"
Captions: "Create an Instagram caption for {Product}} that's ####{{Tone}} and includes ####{{CTA}}"
Image prompts: "Generate a visual description of {Product}} in ####{{Setting}} with ####{{Mood}} lighting"
Hooks: "Write 3 attention-grabbing opening lines about ####{{Topic}}"
Auto-Update Behavior: Set It and Forget It
Every creation card that uses variables has an "Auto Update" checkbox. This controls what happens when variables change.
Auto-Update ON (Default)
When you change a variable, all connected cells automatically regenerate new content. Perfect for rapid iteration and testing.
Example: You change your product name from "Vitamin C Serum" to "Retinol Cream." Your script, images, and video automatically regenerate to match.
Auto-Update OFF
When variables change, affected cells get flagged as "Needs Review" with a yellow border. You decide when to regenerate. Better for content you want to manually control.
The tradeoff: Auto-update saves time but might generate content you don't want. Manual review gives control but requires more work.
β‘ Pro Move: Use auto-update for rapid testing, then turn it off for your final content versions. This gives you the speed of automation with the precision of manual control.
Advanced Workflows in Action
Here's how power users combine these features:
The Product Launch Template
Create global variables: ####{{Brand}}, ####{{Launch Date}}, ####{{Discount Code}}
Build one announcement video with column variables: ####{{Product Name}}, ####{{Key Benefit}}, ####{{Price}}
Use AI text for scripts: "Create excitement about ####{{Product Name}} launching on ####{{Launch Date}}"
Duplicate the row for each product in your launch
Export 10+ announcement videos in minutes
The Trending Content Factory
Global variable: ####{{Trending Audio}} (updated weekly)
Column variables: #######{{Topic}}, ####{{Hook}}, #####{{CTA}}
AI text script: "Write a ####{{Trending Audio}} style video about####{{Topic}} with hook ####{{Hook}}"
Duplicate for multiple topics
Ride every trend with your unique angle
